Christian Soccer Fall 17

Christian wanted to play soccer again this year. The soccer guidelines changed, so it was 4 on 4, with a smaller field and no "technical" goalie. Initially I thought "how silly" that was, but it actually allows the kids to play way more, and get more familiar with how the game is supposed to work.

We called Christian "the boot"... his ability to kick the ball VERY hard was something he figured out in full force this year. It could maybe be a little more guided in a particular direction sometimes...it would have seemed that the powerful kick was the most important part, regardless of the aim! But he sure did get after it, and it was very entertaining to watch.

We brought our fan club! Some games more supportive than others. This game it was very windy...making it feel way cooler than it needed to be!

Kristy did an excellent job coaching...and all the players really improved over the 6 weeks :)
I have a feeling we will be doing this again next fall!! Good job Christian.

Celebrating Christian [8 years old]

Our oldest boy is EIGHT! Each year, the number makes it seem that much harder that it has been that long ago that we were in the hospital meeting our first baby boy! But, here we are, and he is EIGHT and great!

We had a couple of celebrations... the first with the Sweigart family.

He chose haystacks..and a "cookie" cake for dessert.
A big highlight was getting this ripstick...it certainly looks hard to me!!

The Hershberger family came the following Sunday evening.
We had spaghetti and a rice krispie "cake" for dessert.

He got more Keva planks..which he promptly put to use with Grandpa H in building a very cool creation. And then, I recorded the knocking down the creation in slow motion, which I'm pretty sure he considers equally as exciting to watch.

Isaac was his happy little self, and really liked Great Grandpa H's hearing device.

On his actual birthday, we took Christian and Noah to see Cars 3. That evening, we had supper (haystacks...again!) and then opened our family's gifts to him...and went to Grandma and Grandpa's for angel food cake! His brothers got him a nerf gun that was PRETTY exciting...something else to use to knock down those awesome creations!
Happy Happy Birthday Christian....may #8 be GREAT!

Christian [Eight Years]

Christian..eight years old.

I feel like you are in the middle of a big growth spurt. You have grown so much over the summer, getting tall and solid...like a grown boy! There is a much shorter list of foods that you don't care for. It has become so much more of an encouragement to endure your younger brothers picky ways as it doesn't feel like it was that long ago that you were the KING of picky eating. Some of your favorite foods; haystacks, pizza, hamburgers (even with pickles and mustard sometimes!), spaghetti, cucumbers, vanilla yogurt, watermelon, cantaloupe, pancakes, bacon, chicken/wild rice soup, and ICE CREAM is hands down your favorite dessert.

Oh you like to have fun. You love to play outside or build with blocks of some form inside. You also like to draw, and man, you are good at it! You like school, you thoroughly enjoy learning and reading...and are very social (maybe a bit too much!). You read very well, and really like to read chapter books.

You like to build, always thinking up how things are made or creating something. You like when Daddy lets you make things with his scraps. You also like making towers or creations with blocks, cups, etc...and then using a nerf gun to make them all fall. Often when you build inside, you listen to Adventures in Odyssey. You like to have space to yourself, especially if your brothers are VERY curious what you're up to.

You can be so funny. You had put Noah's glasses on here. And when you get going, your laugh is still one of the most contagious laughs I know. It is so full of happiness.

You are a good big brother. Its not always an easy job for you, but you do such a good job. You read to them, give them a "hey buddy", hold their hands when we get out of the car, help put their shoes on, and encourage them at the supper table to try their food. They sure do bother you plenty..but when you shine in that big brother role, it makes my mama heart so proud.

Christian, you are an amazing young boy. You have a crazy good memory, always thinking, love being around others, and have opinions regarding most everything. We love you so much, and look forward to seeing how GREAT this #8 year will be!

First Baseball Season

Christian was in baseball for the first time this year.

Maddox, Ava, and Kade came to one of the games..and that made everyone happy!

And this super sweaty child, did not like to sit still during the games..
nor did Noah!

Good season guys! I'm especially fond of #9 :)

Homecoming

There was a different kind of homecoming this year, as both the high school and college joined together.

Wednesday night, there was a pulled pork meal and parade. The kids were a fan of the parade...there was not a shortage of candy! And the big firetruck at the end had someone extra special that got quite the reaction from our section of the crowd.
And its possibly one of the funniest/cutest things that Jonah does right now...
he does not refer to them as fire truck, but rather just a "wheee-oo--whee-ooo".

On Friday night, we went to the high school football game...
Christian was the junior candidate. He did so good..and looked so handsome :)
And they had a very impressive fireworks show after the game!!

Back to School [2016]

I got to back to school shopping with my soon to be 1st grader! We didn't get too wild and crazy. After we registered for school, we headed to Wichita. Christian picked On The Border to eat lunch, which is fine by me!!
We went to pick up new shoes...super bright ones! Then we finished up at Target...and a treat from Sonic for the ride home :)

My two handsome boys on their first day of school..2016-17 year.
1st Grade ----- HS Spanish (2nd year teaching at HHS)

Christian 1st Grade >>> Mrs. Kaufman
Most looking forward to: "Being with my friends and playing at recess."

He got off the bus with a beaming smile...and said, "I had a GREAT first day!!!"

Christian [Seven Years]

Christian...
How is my once little baby..already 7 years old! You are becoming quite the handsome young boy. Here are a few things about you, at this age that I want to remember:

You have such a fun-filled spirit. You are very sociable, and LOVE to be surrounded with kids your age. You have a loving heart, and are aware of the feelings others have around you. You get along with kids and adults alike. You're biggest "people" issue is your brothers right now. When you play nice and want to get along...oh man, you guys have the happiest, funnest times. And when you want to play the "big brother/parent" role, it can get downright ugly from time to time. I try and remind you that your brothers are like automatic friends built into our family...they can be your best friends for life, and always there for you, even when your other friends are busy or moved on..but I don't know as if you are buying into my idea just yet.

You are smart. Over the past year, I cannot even begin to describe how amazed I am with your academic abilities. You read chapter books very well. The Magic Treehouse Books and The Boxcar Children are ones you are currently reading. You still enjoy being read to as well. We are on the third book in the Shiloh (the dog) series. You do well at math too. I just didn't expect you to just pick up and take off with what you hear and see. I'm grateful you seem to enjoy learning.

You are active. Riding bike, playing catch with the softball, shooting baskets, kicking the soccer ball, throwing sticks/darts, playing in the sand pile/dirt pile, building with Legos, jumping on the trampoline, rollerblading, swimming, and driving 4-wheeler are some of your favorites!

You share a bedroom with Noah, for just a little longer. You will be moving downstairs to your own bedroom, and have not been overly excited about the idea...but not arguing about it either. You sleep with your two blankets, and always request a bedtime story (from Daddy). You sleep SO much better now that your tonsils are out, and are much better rested in general!!

Your eating habits have improved by leaps and bounds. You are actually giving me hope that it will be fun to cook for you and your brothers one day. I appreciate that you will at least try the things you formerly stated you "DID NOT LIKE!!!!" without even attempting them. And as it turns out, often you are a big encourager to Noah to try new foods and get him to eat his meals! You have grown up so much in this area of being a helper to things you know are struggles.

You like to help out around the house. You help me clean...you love to use my Norwex cloths and mop, which I am VERY okay with! You help pick up without complaining TOO much. You also help Daddy out with projects from time to time.

You have Christian heart...you really have a longing to learn more about God and hear what is in the Bible. I love that you question and then are able to retell the things you learned. I am so happy to know you genuinely have an interest in following what God wants in your life, and I hope that Daddy and I can help you grow in this as well!

You are growing in so many ways (literally growing TALL). I am so excited to see how this seventh year of life treats you! You will be gaining another brother this year (which you clearly stated you would like a sister....but "it's okay its a brother, it really will be okay!"). Even on the tough days, when its really hard being the oldest brother...you REALLY are a great big brother, and I'm proud of you.

I love you SO very much Christian Mitchell....you are incredibly special!!

Christian's 7th Birthday

We had one more pre-birthday celebration with Ben's family when they came over to celebrate Grandpa John's birthday. He had a birthday mid July...and so they both were celebrated together.

I just loved his face..he was excited about his art kit, legos and suction bow/arrow set.

Grandpa H had his lap full...they love to do coloring/art, and he is a perfect fit for that!!

The next day, Christian had to try out the bow/arrow set. They went to the hardware store to buy a scrap piece of plastic-y stuff to use as the target!

August 2nd!!!
Officially SEVEN years old...
first thing in the morning, we led him outside to one of his birthday presents from us!

And then he opened his present from Noah and Jonah...
another lego set!

That evening we went to Mom and Dad's for supper...
hotdogs, corn on the cob, macaroni and cheese, apple salad (a random assortment of requests!),
and some form of ice cream dessert for his birthday meal to be complete!!!

Happy happy happy happy happy happy happy BIRTHDAY Christian!
That's alot of happy's. You are such a special 7 year old boy, and we LOVE you SO very much!!

Christian #7

We had a pre-birthday celebration for Christian with the Sweigart family.
It was very low key, as he is still not back to "normal" from the tonsillectomy.
Got some Papa John's pizza, jello, fruit, chips...and angel food cake with strawberries/ice cream for the birthday boy! (He ate the jello..and maybe a bite of cake.)

Sheer delight ripping into the Lego present from Grandpa and Grandma!

Happy (early) 7th Birthday Christian Mitchell!!!
You are such a gift to us, and we are blessed to have you in our family...
hoping that on your actual birthday you feel better and we can REALLY celebrate!!
