Easter projects

Over the course of the last several weeks...Christian and I have done a few "projects" for Easter.

First we made an Easter basket.
He shredded a big ol' pile of tissue paper. That alone was a good time for sure.

Then used flour/water paste before and after each layer of tissue paper pieces.

Then waited a really long time for it to we could pop the balloon, and spruce it up to make it into a basket.

We have done a LOT of easter egg hunts in the house with this basket.

Then we made some special easter eggs. I drew them.....then he used pieces of tape to cover parts of them. "He can handle it." He likes tape.

Then we colored over all the eggs and tape.

Took off the tape...then used watercolors to paint overtop.

They look kinda neat hung up as garland.

Then one day, he wanted to do several things...
alot of cutting.

He made a bunny ear headband

A flower.

And a chick that he painted...using little pom poms for hair. (that was equally as fun for him as the getting his hands covered in paint part!)

We dyed Easter eggs...he didn't really get into that much.
And then we made a Rice Krispie easter eggs with little candies inside.

with sprinkles on the outside.

(He helped mostly by eating the marshmallows that went into the them!)

Ready for EASTER!

FIzzy Colors

Another experimental project with Christian...

some baking soda...
and vinegar/food coloring mixture.

Using a dropper he sucked up some of the coloring and dropped it onto the baking soda.

and it bubbled up...then collapsed.

They looked like geysers.

It didn't keep his attention for "hours" as advertised on pinterest...but it was entertaining for a little bit anyway.

Noah [5 months]

Noah Bear you are already 5 months old. Goodness, time has flown.

You are growing, we will find out Friday at your (belated 4 month appt) just how big you are. You're wearing 6 month clothes, although some of the jammies are starting to be too short for you! And we're finishing up this box of size 2 diapers...and probably get you into some size 3's soon.

(a sleepy)

You my dear are becoming quite the lazy little snuggle bug...who knows how to make some NOISE when you're happy (or mad for that matter). You have a squeal that you change your whole face to belt it out. It sounds like a loud screeching bird when you really get going!

(no, I'm not crying...this is my "I'm-so-excited-I'm-going-to-screech-and-squeal-real-loud" face!)

Your laugh, oh I just love your laugh. You give the most to me when I "get you" with my head to your chest. You are MUCH more ticklish than your big brother was.

You are overall much more content...just know it has not gone unnoticed. It makes my heart happy to know that you are happy....because when you are troubled and sad, and I can't seem to fix it....oh boy, does that make my heart hurt for you.

Your hair has started to grow thicker, and maybe a bit lighter. But your eyes...still that rich blue expressive. I love how you pick up your head when you wake up, and peek over to see who is watching you...and then you grin the sweetest grin that turns into a bashful full out smile!

(there's that face again...happy guy)

You are getting really good at grabbing things...rattles, Its fun to watch you grip the rattles, and put them in your mouth so aggressively!

You can sit up good with support..but you don't like it for very long. And you rolled over from your tummy to your back ONE time (just a couple days ago)...when neither of us were watching. I had left for work, and your daddy heard you knock against the crib...sure enough you had rolled over, and were not happy about it. You don't seem to have a strong desire to even try most of the time...I'm sure you will soon enough!

You are my little helper. You're not always content just being put down so I can do other things. So, I bring you with me and you get to help! Sometimes just being able to see me is good silly little guy, you get a little persnickety about what you want and when you want it :)

The long awaited teeth...are still just that. Crazy how those bad boys take so long to actually poke through. I've been able to see them for weeks now..but still no official break through. I think the left bottom one is going to be the winner...who knows how much longer that will be?! In the meantime, you often wear a bib due to the high drool volume you have going on.

We do own enough clothes for you to wear. You just seem to love to have them off...especially your pants. It is so funny when we get your clothes off to change you or get into the get SO happy! And check out those rolls...gotta love the chubby thighs :)

You still love your baths. Oh boy, you can kick half the water out of your little tub! I have a feeling you will love the pool this summer! I have given you several showers with me...and you don't mind those either. I just have to hang on to you real become quite the slippery little butter ball when all soapy.

You sleep.....and then you wake up. And then you sleep. I stopped really paying attention to how many hours to do or don't sleep at night. All I know is you usually eat a couple times for very short periods of time and go right back to sleep. You did have one night where you sleep from 11:30 to around 7:15...oh my, now that was lovely. You usually take a nap (anywhere between 30 minutes-1 hour) in the morning, and then another one (an hour or just over) in the afternoon. Then maybe a couple cat naps here and there. You eat roughly every 3 or so hours during the day. I don't exactly have a tight schedule for you, if that's not obvious :)

(laying on one of my baby blankets when I was were telling me a story in this picture)

You like your pacifier to sleep with...if you don't fall asleep eating. However, just in the last week or so, you have learned how to yank the pacifier out, chew on it awhile and then get a little frustrated you don't know how to put it back in. Silly boy. You have also used your thumb to suck on a few looks so cute..your chubby little hand up there!

You tried out rice cereal for the first time a couple days ago. I'm sure once you get the hang of it...we will be diving into the whole realm of delicious baby foods :) You seem to know what you enjoy best...milk. And if it HAS to be in a bottle....I have witnessed it myself, that it HAS to be at just the right temperature for you to drink it willingly. My, particular. You have also started spitting up more this month. I'm not sure what that's all about...but I do know I do ALOT of laundry because of you :)

You love your mama. I love you too...very much. You seem to be a little more kind to me when it comes to going to sleep, or eating, or calming down in general. Perhaps, you could work on letting your daddy show you he knows how to do these too...and cooperating so its enjoyable for the both of you. Not too worry....I'm not complaining...I really do love you! Both Daddy and Christian are able to get BIG smiles out of you when they talk to know your family!

Noah Bear, I love you to pieces. I'm so grateful you are a healthy and growing baby..we are so blessed.

A belated Christmas

We had a belated Christmas gathering with the Kilmer's (family friends of Ben's family). It was like an Easter Christmas...or something. Anyways. I was assigned "dessert", and jokingly Leanne told me something chocolate and decadent. Well, in the cookbook my dear friend Ranee just gave me on our visit to Iowa...came this recipe. looked lovely. (And it tasted lovely too...and I don't even really like chocolate that much.)

We ate at Leanne's work place...a child resource center.
It was kid friendly, with a variety of toys...and space to run around.
I didn't get very many pictures, because Noah wasn't the happiest camper, and I was holding him much of the time.

Grandpa H. with Noah.
The light table was so neat,..especially with the clear legos. This was the first time we met Dylan...such a cute little guy.

This was the best I could get of the boys.
Ben, Noah, Phil, Dylan, Nate, Sam, and Christian crawling away.

It was nice to be able to get, and celebrate our Christmas, regardless of the time of year!
I guess I should add...there was more snow on the ground today than there was on December 25...and it was still coming down! So maybe we weren't so far off after all :)

Our Iowa adventure

Ben has Spring Break this I thought we should make a trip to Iowa to see the Brokaws.
We left after Ben got off work on Friday, around 4:30...started off with the tire light on.
Pumped up the tire...made it about an hour down the road, and we had to make a stop at the side of the road for Christian to go to the bathroom...then we stopped in another 20 minutes or so to get what was supposed to be a quick drive thru food...which was not maybe as quick as it would've been if the restaurant was closer to the interstate. Ahh, but alas we were on our way, and made it without too much drama. Noah traveled a little better than Christian I think! Christian kept saying, "this is taking for long....are we almost to Luke and Tessa's." I told him it would be very dark before we would get there.
We left a sunny 80 degree KS and arrived at 2 am to snow on the ground in IA.

(warning: the next part involves was part of our trip...and that's just how it went)

Saturday morning....Christian didn't think he wanted breakfast, but we had him try a couple bites. Next thing, he's throwing up. He's never thrown up...never. Lovely. He didn't act sick at ALL, so we carried on.
The kids played on the new bunk beds they just got.

Tessa held and loved on Noah...she will be a GREAT big sister to her baby brother this summer. She was so funny, very involved with his activities :)

My attempt at a photo of all the kids.

Lunch did not settle again for Christian. Poor buddy. Just out of no where, he was confused. So was I...he didn't have a fever, and definitely didn't act like he didn't feel well. So after Justin came home from work, Ranee and I left the kids with the dads and we went to the outlet mall. It is a must to go to the outlet mall when I come...because it is bound to hold good deals for us...and the tradition lives on.

We picked up pizza for supper..and 7 up for Christian. Later, when Justin was reading to the kids, Christian sat up and said, "I'm REALLY thirsty!" Just as soon as I got up to get him a drink...all the 7 up he had for supper came up. Ooooh my. I felt terrible..for him, as he was saying, "I promise I won't do that again. I'm sorry. I don't like this. I promise it won't happen again." and obviously terrible for creating a big ol' mess. Not exactly ideal for a relaxing bedtime routine...but the kids were all sleeping soundly..and we were able to eat popcorn and visit!

Sunday...we were off to a better start. We had breakfast, and then off to church.....oh, but wait. That tire light, yeah, well....the tire went ahead and went completely flat. SO, we all piled in the Brokaws van and went to church. Both boys fell asleep during church (that never happens!). And then went to Julie and Kyle's (my cousin) for lunch. A really tasty lunch nonetheless. I really wish I would've brought my camera over there. Molly their two year old was cracking me up...quite the spunky little personality she has!

An attempt at a family photo when we got back to the house. Not too bad, considering.

No one took naps...they played instead.

Later that evening, we got to go over to Ranee's parents to see some brand new calves born. They were just a couple hours old....and oh, they were cute! Christian liked them, "Oooh, they are so cuuute. Ooooh, look at them." He even got to pet one. And we watched on eat for the first time. Different than my work...but its still amazing how nature works all the same! Then it was definitely bed time...and the four of us were able to stay up and talk.

Our Monday morning....

Still not 100%...but no more sickness. Thank goodness.

We went to Kalona...picked up some YUMMY rolls and donuts on the way to Justin's parents shop. We spent a little time there, and ate our breakfast. Then, we stopped at the country store (I just like looking around in these places) and the cheese curd factory yummy). Christian was especially impressed with the cheese "robots" that made the cheese curds.

We were just around the house the rest of the day Monday, it was snowing and cold, so playing outdoors wasn't really an option. We got a local guy to fix our tire before supper. And played some more in the evening. Luke has LOTS of was fun for both these boys I think!
And we had our last evening of visiting and "pinteresting" together. When you can't load up and do crafts, you resort to looking at pinterest together...a new kind of "craft" time.

Tuesday morning we had time to snuggle and read a book...and then back to KS...taking our germs and all :)

Note the flip flops on Christian's feet AND hands! He was able to bring the ones on his feet back home with him (and they are now hidden because he wanted to wear them EVERYWHERE).

Thank you for letting us visit...
we had a memorable time!!
Thanks for your GRACIOUSNESS and going with the flow :)
Thanks for feeding us WONDERFUL food!
And thanks for being such a great FRIEND!

On a side note: We made it home without any problems....however, I think the vote is unanimous...that prior to the next trip we will be using a bigger vehicle. Our car is not meant to be a jungle gym for this mama to go from the front to back seat in between two car seats NUMEROUS times!
