The elephant artwork by Ben, made from broken tiles. The blanket that I pieced and Mom quilted.

This last Sunday was an eventful day for us, especially Ben. He was baptized!!!! The baptism was at a lake just north of Wichita at 4 pm. Both our families were able to witness this special event. We both became members at the service as well. I've been attending First MB since the fall of 2006, and Ben joined me when he first moved to Wichita in 2007. We really enjoy the church and felt that becoming members was the next step.
the group the became members, we're on the end
the group that was baptized, Ben's the 3rd one in from the left
Afterwards, we had the family over for supper (thanks to Mom and Dad Sweigart who made everything!!). Minus the multitude of flies outside, it was a very enjoyable evening spent together. What a great day!
Christian is already 3 weeks old today..and growing!

Last Saturday we were in Hesston and wanted to introduce Christian to Ben's Bergey grandparents..as this is their first great-grandchild! We ate supper at Mom and Dad Sweigart's...one of many meals we have been spoiled with from them :) Thank you so much!
Great Grandpa Bergey
Last Sunday we were invited for a meal at the Penner's in Harper. This was a chance for the Hershberger extended family to meet Christian. It was also a reason to see Daniel, Ben's cousin, in between his service trips from Guatemala and he's leaving for a year to work/serve in Paraguay this coming weekend. It was also Howard and Martha's 61st wedding anniversary that week. The meal was very good and Christian enjoyed being held and loved on by everyone!
I think Grandma H. was waiting very patiently to hold Christian!

This summer Ben has been painting when his schedule and weather allow. He had painted for a company last summer, but this summer he's had enough work lined up on his own. It has worked out nicely to have a flexible work schedule since he took a couple summer classes..and then with Christian's birth and all. Since the beginning of the summer, he has started quite the collection to better his "business". We bought his cousin Daniel Penner's pick up truck, then he bought a ladder rack off of craig's list (which was then "enhanced/welded" by Matt Alison), and lastly he bought a 40 ft+ ladder, also off of craig's list. Oh, and the guy that he's painting for right now said he could have the ladder he's using for that job when he's done (it's another really tall ladder). I know he really enjoys painting, and hopefully each summer it will work out to have enough projects to last until the start of school.
Christian and I decided to visit Ben at the house he's been working on painting for several weeks. We took him out to eat afterwards. Unfortunately the pictures don't prove the significant improvement because he has already covered the areas that changed the most. He's painted one other house this summer and completed a couple other smaller projects for people. He had hoped to be done with this one by today, but the weather wasn't exactly cooperating this week.
This side was completed already

We left the hospital the day on Monday, Aug 3rd in the afternoon. That day "Grandma" S. came over and made supper and brought a variety of other goodies, then "Papa" came over to join us for supper. Mom stayed the night to allow me to get a little more rest in between feeding Christian.
He has some room to grow in his crib!! Right now he's sleeping in our room in the pack n' play. He really does sleep fairly well at night. Since he was jaundiced, they recommended I feed him every 2 hours around the clock. I'm pretty sure he and I were both a little frustrated to have to do this, since we both would've rather been sleeping :) Every day we had to go to the doctor's office to get the bilirubin level drawn (that's what causes the jaundice). It made me quite sad to have to take him and get his poor little foot poked for the blood draw. Sunday was the last day we had to do that, we had to go to the hospital to get it drawn since the doctor's office was closed. I'm very glad the levels went down, and his skin color is now normal..not yellow.
His first bath at home...so cute and clean!!!
Sitting in the sun to help with the jaundice. Whether it really helped or not, he didn't seem to mind the sun too much.
Aunt Carissa came all the way from VA to see Christian. She had just returned from her month long trip to Paraguay on the 4th, and the 6th see was in KS holding her new nephew!
Uncle Mitch met Christian on the 8th..he was at class in Indiana for the week. Before he left he told us not to have the baby during this first week in August...I guess Christian didn't listen :)
On our way to church for the first time, Christian was one week old exactly!!
Meeting Great-Grandpa and Grandma Hershberger! I hope he passed inspection :)

Happy 33rd Anniversary Mom and Dad Sweigart! They took the three of us and Carissa out to eat at Scotch and Sirloin. I had never eaten there, and told Christian he must be something pretty special to be able to go out to eat at only 5 days old at such a nice restaurant! It was very good food, and glad we could celebrate with Mom and Dad. Thanks for the good supper..and for being a good example of a lasting marriage :)

Christian Mitchell Hershberger arrived at 6:25 am on Sunday, August 2nd. He weighed 6# 9 oz and 18 in. long. After anticipating his arrival all night long, both Ben and I couldn't have been more overjoyed to meet him. It is truly amazing to be apart of the miracle of life. We love him SO very much, and feel so blessed to have such a healthy baby boy to call our own! We are all doing well, adjusting to life as a family of 3. I am so grateful for such a smooth pregnancy and delivery, God is good!
