BRRRR...
Its a nice fall day, hard to believe its nearly November already! Yesterday we had a guy from the gas company come out to inspect the furnace. I have never had it inspected, and we had gotten a flyer in the mail about a "special" they were running, so I thought it probably was due for a check up. Well, turns out that its a good (and bad) thing the man came over. While inspecting he found that basically our furnace has gone to pot. It has several cracks, and he said the flames that are supposed to be contained in the small area of the furnace were all the way on the outside...some of the wires and such on the outside of the furnace were charred. AND, the small room that the furnace was in had a carbon monoxide level of 485..Ben said the man told him 12 is the dangerous level. Thankfully, the rest of the house only had a level of 5, and we could air the house out yesterday and obviously turn off the gas. I'm glad its not the middle of December and we just found this out. However, it is not exactly toasty in here, and our only electric heater goes to Christian's room. Last night we just all slept in our room with the heater and Christian in the pack-n-play. I hope we find someone to put a new furnace in the first part of the week. Meanwhile, we will try to stay nice and cozy!
Back to work :(
The week has arrived that I had to go back to work at the hospital. I can hardly believe that Christian is 12 weeks old. I enjoyed every day of maternity leave being with him, and it is quite hard to have to adjust to being away from him for 8-12 hours at a time. I wish I could get paid to be my own nanny! Thankfully, Ben is the one who will be watching him the majority of the time, and we don't have to use daycare. My mom is also going to help when Ben's schedule with school overlaps with my work schedule. I'm sure I'll get more and more used to going to work, but I'm not able to comprehend the "enjoyment" in leaving as some mom's say later. So far Ben and Christian have done pretty good, they'll figure out what works best for them. Ben gave me these flowers before I had to leave the first day..his teacher at school had told him to be extra nice to me :)

Every month Grandpa Hershberger sends out a family newsletter the "Hershberger Happenings". It is kinda a big deal to get in the mail. Looks like Christian also enjoys looking at it...guess it is for all ages!

Shipman/Schock Wedding
Kristin and Andrew got married Oct 17th! It was a beautiful fall wedding and reception. My uncle Stanley married them, and had such a good personal message. Although it was a beautiful day to celebrate, I'm sure it was bittersweet as Shirley (my aunt, Kristin's grandma) passed away in May.

Road trip to MN
We left Thursday morning around 7:15, heading to MN for Kristin's (my cousin) wedding. Ben, Christian and I went with Mom and Dad..between having a 2 month old, stopping to eat ourselves, and maybe a pitstop for Dad's work we eventually made it there. I kinda lost track of how long, I think it took roughly 16 hours. Christian did pretty good..the majority of the time he looked like this (the last couple hours..not so much).
Christian got to meet his Great Grandpa Birky..they got along just fine :)
This was the shirt Great-Grandpa bought him..he seems to like it.

big day
Tuesday was kinda a big day. Christian had his Dr appt in the morning. Ben was traveling home with the boys from their fun weekend, so Mom decided to come with. We did a little bit of shopping afterwards and headed back to Hesston so I could pick up Ben. We had a gala event to go in the evening. That sounds kinda fancy..and it was, I had never been to such an event. It was the Pregnancy Crisis Center annual fundraising gala event, and it was their 25th anniversary. Ben, Christian, and I were asked to attend since I was involved with it. Yep...several weeks ago a very special person to me, Nancy asked me to do a video interview for this event and share my story and how I got to know the "PCC". I figured for all they had done for me, I couldn't really say no..so I did it, and they showed it at this event. I didn't really think there would be SO many people there (~ 900 people), and then for us to stand up and be recognized after it was shown was a bit overwhelming. There was another woman who also shared her story. They took bits of the interview and weaved our stories in and out to make the video. They did a very good job, I thought. After they showed that, they had a very good guest speaker, Star Parker, who shared about her life and what she does now.

I was telling Ben, its kinda crazy how for a 2 month old..he's been to a wedding, a funeral, and now a gala event. He's been out and about!
2 month checkup
Christian had his 2 month Dr appt on Tuesday. He now weighs 12 lb 6 oz and 23.5 in long. So he's growing and checked out just great. He had to get 3 shots :(...but the nurse was fast and he did good. We are blessed to have such a healthy baby.
At 2 months old Christian is...
-starting to sleep about a 6 hr stretch at night time
-smiling often, attentive when talked to
-doesn't quite "coo", but makes noises like he's trying to talk back
-holds his head pretty good, doesn't have full control yet
-loves to kick and stretch on the floor
-likes to look at the ceiling fan (when its stationary)
-growing!!! outgrowing more clothes, and almost ready for the next size diaper!
-in the 60% for weight and 67% for height
-still a very lovable, cuddly little baby :)
Guys weekend away..
The guys; Dad, Brent, Mitch, and Ben, had a "mancation" as Ben called it. Dad had said he wanted to do something with all of them sometime...and this was the time. I'd say they definitely went all out! They got to see the MN Twins on Sunday, on what they planned on being their last game in the Metrodome. And after the game, they had past Twins players from the World Series season on the field (I'm guessing some kind of ceremony, I wasn't there so I don't really know..but it sounded pretty neat). I was kind of impressed with myself, remembering many of the players from the '91 team..we did watch as a family pretty closely! The Twins won, and then played Detroit this last Tuesday, and won..so now they are in the playoffs!
Then on Monday night, they got to go to the Vikings vs Packers game!! Vikings won 30-23..I can't imagine what it would've been like to be there..but I've heard it was incredible! Mom, Christian, and I watched at home...
So while the guys were away, we; Mom, Alyssa, me, and the kids had a fun weekend at home. On Saturday, we got pedicures in Wichita and did a little shopping. Saturday evening we all stayed the night with Mom at their house. Sunday morning, Christian and I joined Mom at church while Alyssa and her kids went to their church. We ate lunch at Mom's house, the kids napped, we scrapbooked and tried to figure out how to watch the Twins game (but settled for the internet updates), and then went to Wichita for supper in the evening. Christian and I stayed in Hesston again. Monday kinda flew by, and we met Alyssa and the kids at Applebee's for an early supper. We got home in time for the start of the BIG game..and the rest is history! Not exactly the same weekend the guys had...but we still had a good time all the same. Sometime the girls; including Carissa!! will have to think of a REAL good trip to go on.....hmmm.
Christian got a bath from Grandma in her kitchen sink over the weekend.

Ben's 25th birthday...continued
On Wednesday night, Mom and Dad had us over for supper to have Ben's birthday meal. We had lasagna, his ol' standby favorite. For dessert we had a baked icecream treat..a bit sweet for me, but I guess that's what desserts are! Oh and I see he is wearing his new Vikings shirt..a gift from Mitch.
On Thursday, the actual day, he requested another birthday meal instead of going out to eat. We had baked barbeque chicken, cheesy potatoes, homemade dinner rolls, green beans with bacon, and tossed salad. I'd say if nothing else Ben was fed well for this birthday! Three meals..I guess when you love food, that's what you request. It just makes me think of my Grandma Birky...I really wish she could've met Ben for many reasons. But, I often think when it comes to home cooked meals, she would've loved to have cooked an over abundance of food..and be pleased at how much he would've have eaten and loved it! Maybe heaven has a kitchen, and someday she will be able to cook for him :)
